The importance of critical thinking training

Gabriel Wilensky

Human beings have extraordinary abilities.  We are truly remarkable creatures. We possess the unique abilities to think and communicate, which allow us to accomplish incredible things. But those abilities must be fostered, cultivated, and systematically practiced. We must learn how we can become critical thinkers and in the process harness those abilities to create a better world.

However, we also have primitive passions and impulses that can sometimes control or influence what we do. It’s our job to triumph over these primitive impulses and use reason as the fundamental unifying order of a new world, encompassing everything that is good.

The triumph of reason over our most primitive passions and appetites defines our humanity. We must embrace this fact and use our intellectual prowess to make the world a better place.

Knowledge is important, but it is not enough to create change. We must also possess critical thinking skills.

We must learn how we can become critical thinkers to create a better world.

Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information as a guide to belief and action.

It’s important that we teach and train students how to think reflexively, like keeping balance while riding a bicycle or ducking without thinking when someone throws something at you.

We need to teach students how to reason well, logically, rationally, effectively, critically, and free of bias. This is where the educational system comes in.

The educational system should teach students how to think critically, how to learn, and to develop their communication skills.

The educational system should impart systematic, relentless, and continuous teaching and training of critical thinking, and this should be done from the moment a child enters the classroom until they leave high school.

This is because thinking skills are most effectively taught if they are taught directly and deliberately. Ultimately, we must institute changes in the educational system to ensure that all students become thinking machines.

The current haphazard way of making plans and decisions is a result of inadequate systematic training and practice.

Becoming proficient at thinking requires more than just some theoretical knowledge and a little practice. Thinking rationally and critically should become a reflexive action, and this can only happen as the child acquires these skills through systematic training.

The power of reason is not in possessing the truth but in acquiring it. Reason functions by dissolving monolithic concepts and analyzing them to reach their smallest indivisible components.

Unfortunately, our education does not develop our ability to reason optimally. This is why we must shift the focus of the educational system from just teaching students things to teaching them how to think.

The objective should be to turn all students into mental athletes, teaching and training them how to think rationally and critically, develop their memory and communication skills from the moment they step into a classroom until they leave high school.

I n conclusion, we are extraordinary creatures with unique abilities to think and communicate. However, we must triumph over our primitive impulses and use reason as the fundamental unifying order of a new world. Critical thinking is key to making this happen.

It’s important that we teach and train students how to think reflexively and reason well, logically, rationally, effectively, critically, and free of bias. We must make systematic, relentless, and continuous teaching and training of critical thinking a top priority in our educational system. Let’s turn all students into mental athletes and create a better world together.
